Detailed guide
Say what you want to be reminded about and when, and your reminder is ready: the app works out the date, time and repeat schedule. Below you can find out what Remika can do and how to use it.
Dictating a reminder
There is a round microphone button at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap and release — the app listens while you speak and detects when you have finished.
- Press and hold — the app listens until you release the button. This is handy in noisy places or for longer phrases.
Use everyday words, just as you would when speaking to someone:
Tomorrow at 9:00 dentist
On Friday after work pay the bill
Every Tuesday at 19:00 training
The app shows what it understood: "What should I remind you about?", the date, time and repeat schedule, if there is one. You can change any of these on screen, then tap "Save".
If the app asks a question, some details are missing or your phrase has more than one possible meaning. Answer the question and check the reminder before saving.
If your phone heard you incorrectly, correct the text and save the reminder. Remika keeps these corrections on your phone. Names are often misheard: for example, you say "call Rose", but the phone hears "call rows". Correct that word. After two identical corrections, Remika can apply the replacement itself. This helps with short word replacements, but does not guarantee that your phone will never make another mistake.
Dictating in another language
If you use two languages, such as German and English, turn on the second in Settings → Voice input → Additional language, if you need one. The interface language stays the same, while swiping up or down on the microphone button changes the language before dictation. Two letters appear at the edge of the microphone, such as "EN", showing the selected dictation language.
Your phone may detect the wrong language automatically, so swipe on the microphone button before dictating. This tells your phone which language you will use and lets you see the language currently selected.
Language pack. If your phone offers to download a pack for your selected language, it is a good idea to download it. Your phone can then understand dictated reminders even without internet access.
If you prefer to type or cannot speak
There is a keyboard button next to the microphone. Type your reminder in words, and the app works it out just as it does with speech.
You can put the button in one of four positions, near the edges or closer to the middle of the screen: press it, wait a second, then drag it to a comfortable position.
Home screen widgets
You can put Remika on your phone's home screen: press and hold an empty space → "Widgets" → Remika, then drag the widget you want into place.
- Microphone — one tap opens Remika and starts listening straight away.
- Keyboard — opens the field where you can type a reminder.
- Mic and keyboard — both buttons side by side.
- All buttons — microphone, keyboard and notes in one block.
- Calendar — the whole month, just as in the app: tasks have colored rings, holidays are red and school breaks are green. Use the arrows to browse months right on your home screen. Tap a day to open it in Remika.
- Notes — one tap opens all your notes and folders.
You cannot hold down the microphone in a widget as you can in the app: widgets respond only to taps. The widget's microphone therefore opens Remika, which then listens automatically.
Widgets use the same light or dark theme as Remika.
Reminders in advance
Sometimes you need time before the event itself to get ready, travel or prepare.
In Settings → New reminder, choose how far ahead of an event you want a reminder. A new reminder can sound several times: for example, a day before, an hour before and at the scheduled time. You can change these settings for each reminder on its screen.
You can turn off the alert at the event itself: if half an hour's notice is enough, another alert when you are already there is unnecessary. The "Remind exactly at the event itself" switch is in two places: in settings, it applies to all new reminders; on a reminder's screen, only to that reminder. Until you choose an advance alert, the alert at the event is the only one and will sound regardless.
Repeating tasks
Say "Every Tuesday at 19:00 training" or "every day at 8:00 take a pill", and the reminder repeats automatically. You can view and change the repeat schedule on the reminder's screen: days, weeks, weekdays, selected days, months and years. The "Repeat every" field sets the interval between repeats.
You can limit the repeats in "How many times to repeat": "Always", "N times" or "Until a date". It is even easier to say it in the same phrase — "every Friday at 18:00 swimming 5 times" or "every Monday at 9:00 team meeting until 30 November" — and the series ends automatically.
Repeat alerts until you respond
A reminder can sound several times in a row. In Settings → Reminder repeats, choose how many times and how long to wait between alerts. To stop them, respond to the notification: tap "Complete" or snooze it.
Quiet hours
Go to Settings → Quiet hours → "Don't notify during this time", then set the start and end, for example from 22:00 to 7:00.
During these hours, reminders arrive on time but without sound. The notification waits quietly for you in the morning. The event time does not move: "every day at 6:30 am" stays at 6:30 and simply does not wake you.
Reminder sound
Settings → Reminder sound → "Sound" — choose any sound on your phone.
For vibration and pop-up notifications, there is a separate "Other notification settings" button in the same section. It opens Remika's system notification settings, while "Sound" only opens the sound picker.
Notification buttons
When a reminder sounds, the notification has buttons to mark it as completed or snooze it. You do not need to open the app. If you cannot see the buttons, pull the notification down: your phone hides them while the notification is collapsed.
Calendar, holidays and school breaks
The "Calendar" tab shows everything scheduled, day by day.
In Settings → Holidays and school breaks, choose your country and region, then turn on "Show holidays in the calendar" and/or "Show school breaks in the calendar". Public holidays and school breaks for your region appear in the calendar. This makes planning easier: you can see days off and when the children have a break from school.
Selected a day in the calendar and dictated a reminder without a date? The reminder is set for that day. If you say a date, such as "29 October" or "tomorrow", it is set for the date you said instead.
Want to see reminders for the whole month again after selecting a day? Tap that day again or press Android's system "Back" button.
Categories and colors
Each reminder has a category and its own color: "Work", "Home", "Health", "Birthdays" or "Other".
- Remika chooses the category from the words in your phrase: "dentist" goes into "Health". If it gets this wrong, change the "Category" field on the reminder's screen.
- In the task list, category buttons sit above the reminders. Tap one to show only tasks in that category. A button appears when the category contains at least one task.
- In the calendar, days with scheduled events use their category's shade, showing the month's plans at a glance. Daily tasks have no rings, but appear in the list for the selected day.
Importing from your phone's calendar
Bring your tasks and events from Google Calendar or another calendar into Remika. The app turns them into reminders and shows them in its calendar.
Settings → Import from calendar → "Import from the phone's calendar".
- Allow Remika to read your calendar. Your phone asks once.
- Choose the calendars to import events from.
- Check what will be imported. Use the × to remove anything you do not need.
- Tap "Import".
Things to know:
- The original calendar stays unchanged: Remika only reads it and never writes or deletes anything in it.
- Repeat schedules are kept: training "on Tuesdays and Fridays" becomes one repeating reminder, rather than a hundred separate ones.
- Advance alerts are kept too: if the calendar says "one hour before", the reminder sounds an hour before.
- Past events are not imported, only upcoming ones.
- You can import again: events already imported will not appear a second time.
If an event cannot be imported, Remika shows its name. You can add it manually.
An invitation in an email (.ics file)
Medical appointments, flight tickets and work meetings often arrive by email with an invitation attached as an .ics file. Open the file and choose Remika. It shows the title, date and time, just as after dictation. Check them and tap "Save" to create a reminder.
- If the file contains several events, Remika shows them one by one, "Reminder 1 of 3", and you can save each one. Tap "Skip" to skip an unwanted event.
- If there are more than five events, Remika warns you and offers to save only the first.
- A different time zone: the screen shows the time in your phone's time zone. If the file uses another zone, Remika also shows the original time. If it cannot determine the zone, it asks you to check the time.
- Repeat schedules from .ics files are not imported: Remika offers a one-off reminder and tells you about this. Set a repeat schedule before saving if you need one.
Birthdays
Birthdays have their own tab. Say "Tanya's birthday on 10 August", and the app identifies a birthday and reminds you every year. Other yearly events stay in the main reminder list.
Notes
The "Notes" tab is for things you want to keep close at hand.
- New note — the "+" button offers four kinds: "Text", "Checklist" (items to tick off), "Camera" (photo) and "Audio" (voice recorder).
- Checklist — tick off items as you complete them. "Uncheck all" in the menu clears all the ticks at once. You can turn any note into a checklist and back: "Checklist" / "Plain text".
- Audio note — tap "Audio", and your phone records your voice. The recording is saved in the note for you to play back.
- Reminder from a note — open the note, then the three dots → "Create a reminder". The title comes from the note, and the note itself stays where it is.
- Pin a note to the top — open it and tap the three dots at the top right → "Pin to top".
- Dictate a note — in "Notes", hold down the microphone button, speak and release. Your words become the note's text.
You can attach a camera shot, a photo from your gallery, an audio recording or a file to a note.
A link from another app. Open something in YouTube or a browser, tap "Share" and choose Remika to create a note with a link. A title and image may appear on the card if the page provides them and the app can load them.
Folders for notes
When you have lots of notes, sort them into folders such as "Recipes", "Garden" and "Documents".
- Create a folder — at the top of "Notes", switch to "Folders" and tap "+ New folder".
- Move a note into a folder — press and hold a note in the list, then choose a folder. You can also do this inside a note: three dots → "Move to folder".
- Create a note in a folder — open the folder and create a note there with "+" or dictation. It goes into that folder without any extra questions.
"All notes" shows every note, including those in folders. The folder name appears below each note's title.
Pinned folders, up to five, sit together above the "All notes" list to keep your most useful folders handy. Press and hold a folder to pin, rename or delete it.
Deleting a folder is safe: its notes stay in "All notes".
Task digests
The app can send you a list of planned tasks in advance, for tomorrow or the next 7 days.
- Daily digest — tomorrow's tasks, sent at a time you choose in the app's settings.
- 7-day digest — everything planned for the week ahead, on the day and at the time you choose.
Set the time in Settings → Daily digest / 7-day digest → Notification time.
Completed tasks
Tap "Completed" in the task list to see completed reminders until they are deleted.
In the app's settings, choose how long completed reminders stay in the list and calendar, and when to delete them permanently.
Rearranging tabs
You can rearrange the four tabs at the bottom — "List", "Calendar", "Birthdays" and "Notes". Press a tab, wait a second, then drag it. You can also swipe left or right to switch between tabs.
Appearance
Settings → Theme: light, dark or the same as your phone.
Remika uses your phone's text size. If you increase it in the system settings, the app grows along with everything else.
Backup and restore
Settings → Backup and restore → "Save a copy": the app saves all reminders, notes, attachments and settings in one file. For the first backup, Remika asks which folder on your phone to use.
Keep a copy outside your phone. A backup stored only on your phone can be lost with it if the phone breaks or is stolen. After saving, the "Copy saved" window has a "Send…" button. It opens the usual "Share" menu, so you can email the backup to yourself, put it in cloud storage (Google Drive, OneDrive) or send it to a computer. Backups with photos can be large. If email will not accept the file, use cloud storage.
Restore — use "Restore from a copy" on the same screen. Remika offers the latest backup from its folder. "Another file" opens a file picker with cloud storage and "Downloads". If the same reminder or note is in both the file and your phone, the newer version of that entry is kept. Settings are restored from the backup.
The backup file is not encrypted: it contains your reminders and notes in readable form. Keep it somewhere you would keep personal documents.
Remika Plus
All Remika Plus features are available for the first two months after installation.
After that, without Plus, you can create up to 12 active reminders, 20 notes and 10 birthdays. Everything already created is kept and continues working. Nothing is deleted, even if you have more entries than the limit. Once the number drops below the limit, you can add new entries and reminders again.
Remika Plus removes these limits on the number of entries. Choose a monthly or yearly subscription, or a lifetime purchase. You can buy it at any time, including during the trial. In Settings → Remika Plus, you can see how many trial days remain and your current numbers of reminders, notes and birthdays.
Payment is through Google Play. Subscriptions renew automatically, and you can cancel at any time in Google Play. If you change phones, Plus is restored through your Google account.
Backups are always free.
Where your data lives
Reminders and notes stay on your phone: no account, no ads and no tracking.
The app works out what you said on your phone, without internet access. Only when a phrase is too complex does the app ask artificial intelligence for help. It sends just that phrase, without your name, phone number or other data. See the privacy policy for details.
Something not working?
A reminder did not sound. Check that your phone allows Remika to show notifications and run in the background. Find these controls in your phone's system settings, under apps.
Dictation cannot hear you. Allow microphone access in your phone's system settings. Without a downloaded language pack or internet access, your phone cannot understand speech.
The time was misunderstood. Change it on the reminder review screen. The app shows what it understood, so you can easily fix a mistake before saving.
